The Historical Society of Topsail Island is proud to present Frank McMahon who will speak about Historic Halifax where the “Halifax Resolves” were unanimously adopted. This was the first official action by an entire colony recommending independence from England.
About our speaker…
Frank McMahon serves as the Assistant Site Manager at Halifax State Historic Site. He has been one of the Site’s Historic Interpreters since January 2017 and continues to play a pivotal role in the preservation and interpretation of Halifax’s historic legacy.
McMahon holds a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology/ Archaeology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in Park and Resource Management from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. He has a background in cultural resource management archaeology and has previously served as an interpretive ranger at Valley Forge National Historic Park.
He is a contributing writer with the North Carolina Museum of History. One of McMahon’s notable contributions is his article, “All Our People Here Are Ripe for Independence: Understanding the Halifax Resolves,” featured in the fall 2023 issue of the Tar Heel Junior Historian Magazine. His dedication to sharing the rich history of Halifax and its significance in the struggle for independence exemplifies his commitment to preserving and promoting cultural heritage.
