Cliff Tyndall & Becky Sawyer; co-authors of “Fort Fisher During WWII: Civil War Icon Revisited”
Cliff Tyndall is a recently retired History and Geography professor who now works as an author, historical consultant, WWII memorabilia collector, and historic prop procurer/locator for television, film, and stage productions.
He is the author of five books focusing on Civil War and World War II history specific to southeastern North Carolina. Before his academic career, Tyndall served with the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources as an Educational Specialist, where he conducted research, led staff development, and supervised the state’s historic weapons program.
Currently, he is actively consulting on several upcoming 80th anniversary WWII commemorative events in southeastern North Carolina.
Tyndall lives in Wilmington, NC, with his wife and a clowder of cats.
Becky Sawyer serves as the Collections Manager and Programs Coordinator for Fort Fisher State Historic Site. She holds degrees in history from Southeast Missouri State University and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. With a deep commitment to historical preservation, Sawyer has conducted extensive research on World War II-era Fort Fisher at the National Archives in College Park, Maryland, significantly expanding the site’s WWII collection. Her work includes the acquisition of original uniforms, photographs, period publications, and other artifacts personally owned or created by soldiers.
An accomplished writer, Sawyer has contributed articles to several historical periodicals, including a recent feature in Civil War Navy that highlights Fort Fisher’s naval history.
She lives in Wilmington, North Carolina, with her husband Randolph, their three daughters, and a lively household of cats and a dog.
